Plitvice Falls and Krka National Park, Croatia, 2015

The waterfalls in Croatia are unlike any other waterfalls we’ve seen. Jacquelyn loves waterfalls and they may very well be her favorite geographical feature to visit. This means we’ve probably been to about a million waterfalls of all different shapes, sizes, and colors in our travels. The mountains in the area are made of very hard limestone so the waterfalls have very beautiful blue, green, and yellow hues due to all the suspended limestone solids. Fortunately for us, the Croatian people realized the immense beauty of these areas and built boardwalks around the waterfalls so people can get very close and enjoy the falls. In all of our travels around the world and around the US, I can’t think of a place that has similar attributes of beauty and ease of access; I would be surprised if Plitvice and Krka National Parks were similar to any parks or waterfalls anywhere else in the world.

We are here before the start of the very busy tourist season. We are fortunate we are early because we’ve been told it’s pretty much shoulder to shoulder during the busy season; the very small Plitviec National Park gets over a million tourists per year! We’ve been able to enjoy the parks in relative peace at a very leisurely pace. We’re back in the land of really good pizza, it’s like NY style, which is the best style of pizza. It’s hard to get good pizza around the world, especially after being in Asia, Indian Subcontient, and Oceania where they sell things that resemble pizza but they are generally terrible and cause diarrhea. Pizza is Jacquelyn’s favorite food group on the food pyramid so we’ve have pizza for every single meal over the last five days and will probably have pizza every meal until we leave .

We are on the Croatian coast for the next handful of days before we turn inland. The weather has been very good and it’s been fun to wander around in former Roman/Venitian buildings all the while having amazing views of the coast. There’s a lot to love about Croatia! We are glad we returned to Europe so we could visit this wonderfully beautiful place!

Enjoy the photos!
