After 36hrs, four different flights, and four countries (South Africa, Brazil, Columbia, & Chile) we made it to Santiago, Chile, from Cape Town, South Africa. While we were in Santiago for just over a week we didn\u2019t see a whole lot because I ended up getting influenza A. Which, surprisingly, was a really good thing. Prior to Santiago, we had been in multiple malaria regions of Africa and the symptoms for the flu and malaria are similar. I was so happy to find out I didn’t have malaria; I might be the only person in the world who was ever happy to hear they had the flu!<\/p>\n
I really got to know the inside of our hotel room and the staff at the hotel :). Fortunately, our room had a good view of the mountains so I was able to enjoy the scenery even though I was a bit under the weather. We did make it out to the ocean and to the mountains so we did see a very little bit of Chile before we left.<\/p>\n
We celebrated one full year of travel outside North America in Santiago! We put on our best clothes (one of our three outfits :P) and had a nice dinner. It\u2019s crazy to think we\u2019ve been gone for a full year! We look forward to going back to Chile and actually seeing the country, meeting people who are not hotel staff, and eating food that is authentic. Next time :).<\/p>\n
